"Are You Ready?" was written to explore the risks and methods of surviving earthquakes in California. The story opens in 1906 with a riviting first-hand account from Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso, who survived the great San Francisco quake only to be met by another after returning home.

Compiling the text and graphics entailed extensive interviews with scientists, engineers and emergency first responders.
